What are torque wrenches?
Torque wrenches are tools used to apply a specific torque in a controlled manner. Torque wrenches are therefore used in those applications where the accuracy of the torque is important to ensure the reliability and safety of operations.
Accuracy and reliability of measurement are therefore two key factors that define the quality of a torque wrench. Torque wrenches therefore need to go through periodic calibration processes.
Digital Torque Wrenches
There are four main types of torque wrenches: beam or deflection, dial indicator, clicker, and digital.
Digital Torque Wrenches are designed for a user to pre-set the desired torque value. As it gets close to the target torque, the torque wrench alerts the user through audio or visual signals that help achieve a great degree of accuracy.
The final torque value can then be stored in the torque wrench and transferred to a computer either via wireless communication or through a physical cable connection.
Wireless Torque Wrenches
Wireless torque wrenches are digital torque wrenches that allow the torque values to be sent to a computing device through wireless communication. The communication between a torque wrench and the central computing device can be 1-1 or many to one.
EGA Master offers a solution that allows up to 10 torque wrenches to connect to a receiving hub that transfers the torque values to a central computing device. Because the information is stored directly in a computer, the capacity to store torque values within the torque wrench itself becomes irrelevant.
